The CJLT Framework

Where Real Communication
Actually Begins.

Everyone else starts at the surface. This starts at the source.

"Most people are trying to fix layer six. The work starts at layer one."

Most communication training teaches you to perform better. Speak more clearly. Project confidence. Stand differently. And it doesn't work, not because the techniques are wrong, but because they're starting in the wrong place.

Real communication doesn't begin with words. It begins with who you believe yourself to be when you open your mouth. Whether you feel like you have the right to take up that much space. And beneath that, your relationship to yourself.

The CJLT Framework maps the six layers that sit beneath every truly powerful communicator. Click any layer to explore it. Or scroll down to read the full story.

06
Clear Communication
What everyone sees. What everyone teaches.

This is the only layer most programs ever touch. Better words. Stronger delivery. A clearer slide. But clear communication isn't a skill you practise in isolation, it's the natural result of every layer beneath it working properly. When the foundation is solid, this layer looks after itself.

05
Clarity of Mind & Clear Thinking
When your mind is clear, thinking becomes effortless.

You've been in the room where someone clearly smart completely loses the thread. Not because they're not intelligent, because their mind is full of noise. Self-consciousness. The imagined reactions of everyone watching. The gap between how they want to come across and how they're afraid they're landing. Clear thinking requires a clear mind. And a clear mind requires the layers below.

04
Confidence
Not the performance of it. The quiet, unshakeable kind.

Real confidence isn't loud. It doesn't need to fill the room before it's earned the right to. It's the kind that holds when someone challenges you. That stays steady when the stakes are high. That kind of confidence doesn't come from practice. It comes from belief. And belief is the layer below.

03
Belief in Your Own Ability
You know, deeply, that you belong in the room.

This isn't about thinking you're the best person in the room. It's about not needing to answer that question at all. The moment you believe in your own ability, you stop spending cognitive bandwidth on managing the impression. You can put that energy somewhere far more useful: into the conversation, the idea, the person in front of you.

02
Authenticity, Aligned, Not Performed
When you're aligned with who you are, authenticity isn't something you do. It emerges.

Most people who say they want to "be more authentic" are performing authenticity, which is exactly the problem. Authenticity isn't a style choice. It's what happens when you're fully aligned with what you actually think and feel and mean. When there's no gap between the person inside and the person in the room. That alignment lives one layer below.

01
Self-Awareness & Emotional Maturity
★ The work begins here, where everyone else stops looking.

This is where the work actually starts. Not at the top of the stack where the symptoms are visible, but here, at the stories you've been telling yourself about your worth, your voice, your right to take up space. Most people have never examined these stories. They just live inside them, wondering why the communication training isn't working. When you rewrite the story, everything above it changes.

Presence.

Not the kind you perform. The kind that stops a room. That makes casting lean forward. That makes a boardroom go quiet. The kind that has always been inside you, waiting for the layers above to get out of the way.

The Problem with Most Coaching

They start at layer six.
We start at layer one.

What everyone else does

  • Better words and stronger phrasing
  • A stronger, more projected voice
  • Cleaner slides and tighter structure
  • Confident body language and posture

What CJLT does

  • Self-awareness under pressure
  • Authentic presence, not performed confidence
  • Permission to take up space
  • Communication that comes FROM somewhere
01
Layer One, The Foundation

Self-Awareness &
Emotional Maturity

Every communication problem I've ever worked on, in a boardroom, in an audition room, on a stage, in a one-on-one session, has its roots here. Not in the words. Not in the posture. Not in the breathing technique.

It's in the story the person is telling themselves about who they are when they open their mouth. Whether they have the right to take up that much space. Whether people will actually want to hear what they have to say.

Emotional maturity is the ability to notice those stories, to see them clearly, to understand where they came from, and most importantly, to choose whether to keep living inside them. This is not therapy. It's precision. It's the most practical thing I teach, because without it, everything above it is just decoration.

"Most people don't have a communication problem. They have a self-worth problem dressed up as a communication problem."
02
Layer Two, The Identity

Personal Alignment
& Authenticity

The corporate world has created a mass performance of professionalism. People arrive at work and perform the role, a sanitised, managed, impression-maintained version of themselves. And in doing so they strip out the very thing that makes communication work: them.

Authenticity is not a communication style. It's not warm language or vulnerable storytelling. It's structural, it's what happens when there is no gap between the person inside and the person in the room. When you're aligned with what you actually think, feel, and mean, you stop performing it, and you simply are it.

The work at this layer is about closing that gap. Not by being "more yourself", that's the direction without the map, but by understanding specifically where the performance began, and why, and what it would mean to put it down.

"When you stop performing authenticity and start living in alignment, the room feels it before you say a word."
03
Layer Three, The Belief

Belief in
Your Own Ability

Not the kind you say out loud. Not the kind you perform for the room. The quiet kind, the kind that means you walk in without needing to establish your credentials before you speak. The kind that survives a challenging question. That holds when someone disagrees. That doesn't require constant reinforcement to remain standing.

This layer is where doubt lives. Not intellectual doubt, the kind that's healthy and curious. The other kind. The kind that uses all your cognitive bandwidth managing the impression while you're trying to have the conversation.

When belief in your own ability is real, not performed, not borrowed from your title or your track record, it frees up everything else. You stop managing and start engaging. You stop protecting and start connecting. The conversation becomes effortless because it's no longer about survival.

"The moment you stop needing the room to validate you, you start being able to genuinely move it."
04
Layer Four, The State

Real, Unshakeable
Confidence

Real confidence doesn't announce itself. It doesn't fill the room before it's earned the right to. It doesn't need to. It's the calm in the middle of a difficult conversation. The steadiness when the stakes are highest. The willingness to be wrong without it threatening your sense of who you are.

The reason confidence-building programs mostly don't work is that they're trying to manufacture something that has to be grown. You can't shortcut your way to genuine confidence. You can only create the conditions in which it naturally develops, by building everything beneath it.

When you have it, here's what changes: you stop filling silence with noise. You stop hedging every opinion. You stop apologising for your perspective. You speak less and land more. The most powerful communicators I've ever watched are not loud. They're just genuinely unafraid.

"Real confidence is not about feeling ready. It's about being willing to show up before you do."
05
Layer Five, The Mind

Clarity of Mind &
Clear Thinking

When the layers beneath this one are working, something remarkable happens: thinking becomes effortless. Ideas connect naturally. You find the right words without searching for them. You follow the thread of a complex argument without losing it.

This is what people usually mean when they say someone is "articulate", but they're misidentifying what's happening. The articulate person isn't smarter. Their mind isn't cluttered with self-consciousness and impression management. It's clear. And clarity is the natural state when everything below it is functioning.

The opposite is also true: you've seen brilliant people completely unable to access what they know in a high-stakes situation. Not because they forgot it, because their mind is full. Full of the imagined reactions of the room, the comparison to how this should be going, the gap between their performance and their ideal.

"You cannot be self-conscious and purposeful at the same time. The brain doesn't have room for both."
06
Layer Six, The Expression

Clear
Communication

And finally, here, at the top of the stack, is the thing everyone is trying to improve directly. The words. The delivery. The presence. The impact.

Here's what I want you to understand: this layer is not the hardest to change. It's actually the easiest. Once the five layers beneath it are working, the communication problem often disappears entirely without a single technique being taught. Because the person is no longer performing. They're simply being.

This is the difference between someone who has been trained to communicate better and someone who has done the deeper work. One of them is executing a set of techniques. The other one is just talking. And the room knows the difference, even if it can't articulate it, because it feels it.

"Unlike everyone else who's performing clarity, you're living it."
