I help you get out of your own way, build a process you can trust, and make the truth of where you belong impossible for casting to miss.
"If it wasn't for meeting Charles, I wouldn't have a clear path ahead of me."Maclan S.
Before you press record, the scene makes sense. You have ideas. You can feel the character, the relationship, everything sitting underneath the words. Then the red light comes on. You hear your voice. You arrange your face. You wonder whether the choice is big enough, whether casting will understand it, whether this looks like the version that books the job. By take nine, the tape is cleaner. It is also dead. The talent hasn't gone anywhere. It's trapped behind the effort to show it.
Talent nobody can read is talent nobody can hire.
The moment you try to demonstrate the emotion, danger or charm, you step outside the scene and start directing our opinion of you. Your attention leaves the other person and lands on yourself. Presence on camera is the same as presence anywhere else: stay with what's happening, listen, think, want something, let the other person change you. Your career needs the same honesty. Positioning isn't inventing a brand, it's making the most castable truth about you clear enough that the industry knows what to do with it.
Early in my acting career, I walked into a room for a role I wanted badly, so afraid of being judged that I spent the entire audition guessing what they wanted instead of showing them what I actually had. I've spent more than fifteen years since then auditioning, working on sets, and discovering how much of this career nobody teaches you. I've booked roles I desperately wanted and destroyed auditions I should have nailed. I know the particular misery of trying so hard to get the job that you forget to play the scene. I can't make the industry fair. I can make sure fear, confusion and bad preparation aren't doing its job for it.
For an actor, clear communication is a performance the audience can feel without seeing the work required to create it. Explore the full Framework →

What is your best approach for younger actors?
"Charles Jazz Terrier is someone I have worked with as an acting coach for over a year and a half. As my personal acting coach and career mentor, he is always available, whether that's last-minute auditions or last-minute questions, Charles will always pick up the phone or answer an email. It's all backed by his years and decades of experience, both in front of the camera and behind it. Charles leads by example but also leads with the heart of what this industry is about, constantly putting other people before his own needs, making time for people to get their work done. He is a teacher, a mentor, someone who leads by example. Work I am proud of, work I have been pushed to get, and work I feel confident to submit or perform. Charles makes being an artist enjoyable and reliable. He is the best of the best."
"Charles is one of the nicest people I know. He is always happy to answer any questions and helped me shape and find the best path for me to become an actor. When I worked with Charles he was able to help me channel my energy into my voice with the same power I had in my movements. Charles is one of my role models and mentors in my journey of becoming an actor. If it wasn't for meeting Charles I wouldn't have a clear path ahead of me, and I wouldn't be able to channel my energy to work with me instead of against me."
"Class with Charles is such a safe space to play and unlock the most authentic truth in your characters. I was able to explore new vulnerabilities and tap into a deeper level of connection with his guidance and support. If you ever have the opportunity to take class or a workshop with Charles, I highly recommend."
"I met Charles through word of mouth, and I'm glad I did. Charles is an inspired and wildly curious mentor with a fervour for the craft. He is quick to gather your way of seeing and, in turn, fosters you to hone your own craft. He has an abundance of knowledge and experience, which he dispenses freely. He is light and humorous, which puts the room to ease. He lends a very generous hand and he truly wishes you well."
"Charles is an incredible acting coach who genuinely cares about your growth. He always pushes you to see scenes from new perspectives while making you feel fully supported in the process. His insight and encouragement have helped me grow so much as an actor, and I always leave our sessions feeling more confident and inspired. I truly couldn't recommend him more."
